Comprehensive Genomic Analysis reveals Evolutionary Dynamics of SARS-CoV2 during the Initial Phases of the COVID-19 Outbreak in the Dominican Republic

We conducted a genomic characterization of SARS-CoV2 samples collected in the Dominican Republic at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nasopharyngeal swab samples were obtained from both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients during community testing. Samples with confirmed SARS-CoV2 infection and sufficient remaining material were selected for viral genome sequencing. The viral genomes were amplified using the ARTIC V4 primer set, and libraries were sequenced on the Illumina NextSeq500 and NextSeq2000 platforms with a 2x150 bp paired-end protocol.
