Complete genome sequence of a pollen-associated Secoviridae recovered from a Japanese apricot (Prunus mume) metagenome dataset. Sequence of a pollen-associated Secoviridae

Several hundred plant viruses have been described, but a small percentage are known to be pollen-associated. We report the complete genome sequence of Japanese apricot pollen-associated secovirus 1 (JAPSV1), which was recovered from a mRNAseq dataset of pollen from the Japanese apricot (Prunus mume cv. Kairyo-Uchida-Ume) using an in-house viral discovery pipeline. JAPSV1 is closely related to peach leaf pitting-associated virus (PLPAV). This discovery increases the number of viruses known to be pollen-associated.
