Continuità e trasformazioni in Daunia alle soglie della conquista romana

This paper is focused on the "Romanization" in South Italy. Recent years have witnessed increased interest in roman colonization and previous conceptions of roman colonization have been fundamentally challenged. My particular focus is to present various examples of the investigation conducted in the Daunian area, specifically in the period preceding the arrival of the Romans and the Romanization of the area. The most notable transformations in the ancient landscape were undoubtedly produced by the Roman intervention that gave birth to the new colonies, the planning of the new towns, which consequently led to the reorganization of a vast territory and the division of the rural areas into a dense network of small properties assigned to the settlers.
