Finger millet (Eleusine coracana L.) is a hardy cereal known for its high level of tolerance against drought, heat, salinity, diseases and its nutritional properties. It is an important minor cereal crop widely grown in Africa and Asia. Investigating the mechanisms and pathways involved in heat-tolerance of finger millet could facilitate better understanding of the molecular basis of heat tolerance and therefore enable the effective use of genetic and genomic approaches to improve heat tolerance in major cultivated crops.
