This study examined the visual system plasticity of an invasive cichlid, the Peacock bass (Cichla monoculus) in the Panama Canal. The alternate use of vitamin A1 and A2 in its photoreceptors and differential gene expression in the retina allows this invasive cichlid to survive in a highly variable environment.
