The data was produced from shotgun sequencing data that can be found in the NCBI Sequence Read Archive (SRA) with accession number PRJNA1155269. The data includes MetaPhlAn4 classified bacteria, archae and eukaryotes, and MetaPhlAn3 classified DNA virus abundance and count tables in Additional files 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively. Per-sample metadata, including study participant filled questionnaire answers and sample technical data, is in Additional file 6. Written informed consent has been obtained from all study participants. IQ-TREE 2 constructed maximum likelihood phylogeny of 31 Malassezia restricta strains is in Additional file 7.
