Samples collected at waterworks sand filters were enriched for specific functional groups e.g. ammonium oxidizers. These enrichment cultures were tested in column experiments. Samples were taken at experimental termination. 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing was done on the original sand filter material, the cultures and the samples.
