The project focuses on assessing heavy metal contamination in the coastal waters of Guliakhali Beach, located in Sitakunda, Chattogram, Bangladesh. The area is ecologically significant and holds growing importance as a tourism and fishing hub. However, industrial activities, particularly shipbreaking yards and chemical processing plants, have resulted in heavy metal pollution in the area, which poses significant risks to both the environment and public health.This study aims to evaluate the concentrations of key heavy metals, such as lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), zinc (Zn), and chromium (Cr), in the water samples from various locations along Guliakhali Beach. By analyzing the concentrations of these metals, the project seeks to understand the sources and pathways of contamination, as well as the ecological and human health implications.The methodology of the study involves sampling from multiple locations along the coast, followed by the quantitative analysis of water samples using advanced spectrophotometric techniques and statistical tools. The project focuses on the relationships between heavy metal concentrations and water quality parameters, such as pH, salinity, temperature, and dissolved oxygen (DO), to better understand the broader environmental impact of these pollutants.The study also identifies critical knowledge gaps in the current understanding of industrial contamination in coastal ecosystems and emphasizes the need for more targeted environmental research and policy interventions. The findings aim to contribute to the development of sustainable environmental management practices, regulatory frameworks, and pollution mitigation strategies for the region.Additionally, the project highlights the role of public awareness in addressing water pollution and promoting sustainable tourism and fishing practices in the area.
