Pannexins are large pore ion channels involved in the release of ATP. A congneital mutant of PANX1 is known to block this ion channel. We observed that this happens through a gating residue that shifts into the pore to block the channel. We demonstrated this for our manuscript with a low resolution structure 3.9 angstroms. We would like to obtain the structure of this mutant channel at a high resolution to mark the changes in the channel precisely.
