ChinaUTCI: Daily Maximum Universal Thermal Climate Index Dataset at 1-km resolution from 2000–2012 in China

This record provides a daily maximum Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCImax) dataset for China at a spatial resolution of 1 km. It forms part of a six-record Zenodo collection covering daily mean, maximum and minimum UTCI for China from 2000 to 2024. The six records cover three daily UTCI statistics (mean, maximum and minimum), each divided into two temporal subsets (2000-2012 and 2013-2024). The dataset was generated using a spatiotemporal residual boosting (STRB) framework. The framework combines a 0.1-degree UTCI baseline derived from ERA5 and ERA5-Land with station-derived UTCI, high-resolution near-surface meteorological variables, land surface temperature, topography, land cover, NDVI, nighttime light and refined spatiotemporal predictors. LightGBM models were used to reconstruct local UTCI residuals at the 1-km scale. Data are provided in NetCDF format, with one file for each day. The main variable is UTCImean, expressed in degrees Celsius.
