Parkes observations for project P786 semester 2011APRS

We have discovered 44 RRATs (eRRATic neutron stars) in archival Parkes pulsar surveys. Additionally the ongoing HTRU survey has identified 10s of excellent new candidates. These RRATs are neutron stars which emit sporadic radio bursts. Constraining and characterising the RRAT population is the motive for our work. These follow-up observations will help us determine how neutron stars detected as RRATs are related to the general pulsar and magnetar populations. Furthermore, they will tell us about radio intermittency in neutron stars, especially those which are oldy/dying and those with strong magnetic fields. We hope to use the Parkes telescope to study our newly discovered sources through precise timing observations.
