The role of Rotavirus infection on Murine gut microbiota composition

Viral triggers at the intestinal mucosa can have multiple global effects on intestinal integrity. We here set out to better understand the impact that small intestinal rotavirus (RV) infection might have on commensal bacteria of the murine small and large intestines. Using high-throughput sequencing of the V3-V4 region of the 16s rRNA gene, we probed whether rotavirus induces a global change in the gut flora composition at 1, 2, and 4 weeks post RV infection in individually caged mice.
