Oncogenic biogenesis of pri-miR-17~92

The microRNAs encoded by the miR-17~92 polycistron are commonly over-expressed in cancer and orchestrate a wide range of oncogenic functions. Upon overexpression processing enzymes (Drosha and DGCR8) with partially process primary miR-17~92 generating processing intermediates. Sequencing of miRNAs expressing different levels of miR-17~92, show thatincreased miR-17~92 resulted in downregulation of polycistronic miRNAs including the tumor suppressing miR-34b/c.
