Plaited Sandal, Accession AZRU-00008, Catalog #2818. Morris FS 5286. Analyzed by Laurie Webster, 2006. 2/2 plaited sandal, medium weave, double toe loop of braided yucca, thick heel loop of 2S-Z yucca. Incomplete 2S-Z yucca strap across instep joined to toe loops with 2Z-S and 2S-Z yucca cords. Slightly cupped heel. Small size. Measurements: L 21.0, W 10.5 CM. Image: AZRU8-2818 A: 2-2 plaited sandal with double toe loops and heel-toe tie system. Recovered from Earl Morris' excavation of Room189, Upper Level, Aztec West Ruin. Morris noted that Room 189 “contained the largest quantity of perishable objects from the Chaco period that have to date been taken from any chamber in the western half of the pueblo. [Later occupants] laid down a 1 to 3 inch floor of adobe upon the earlier refuse and a bin was built up in the northwest corner” (Morris1928:371).
