Glyphosate effects on edaphic microbiota of Yucatan karst soils

In this project, we will evaluate the microbiota of different soils from the Yucatan Peninsula. The soils in this karst region are typically associated with the cultivation of maize, legumes, and cucurbitaceous crops within the traditional Mayan milpa agroecosystem. However, conventional agricultural practices (such as the use of herbicides) are becoming increasingly common, potentially impacting soil microbiota. We aim to assess the effects of glyphosate application on the archaeal, bacterial, and fungal communities of the most representative soil groups in the Yucatan karst (Leptosols and Cambisols), categorized according to their predominant colors (red, brown, and black).
