We tested the long-term efficiency of three biological components (compost, white-rot fungus and willow) to remediate diesel-contaminated soils in a subarctic climate (Whitehorse, YT), and compared their efficiency to a fertilizer treatment and natural attenuation. Genomic work was conducted on fungal (ITS1) and bacterial (16S) soil communities to measure the influence of the treatments on the fungal and bacterial communities’ composition and structure, and to identify which communities lead to the greatest level of contaminant degradation.
