Additional Information for "Formation and Sedimentation of Ash Fingers Below Volcanic Clouds: Insights from Lock-Release Experiments"

This repository contains the experimental dataset, videos, and MATLAB analysis code supporting the manuscript “Formation and Sedimentation of Ash Fingers Below Volcanic Clouds: Insights from Lock-Release Experiments” submitted to Frontiers in Earth Sciences. The dataset is derived from a series of controlled laboratory lock-release experiments designed to investigate the dynamics of particle-laden gravity currents and the formation and evolution of ash fingers under the influence of interfacial shear. This repository is intended to facilitate reproducibility and reuse of the experimental result and analysis. Contents: Experimental videos: Visual records of experiments (a–m), documenting gravity current propagation and finger development (“VideosExperiments.zip”). Metadata: Experimental conditions and parameters for each run (“General experimental information.xlsx”). Raw PIV data (Excel files): Velocity fields used to quantify flow structure and compute vorticity for experiment-c and experiment-l. Each excel file corresponds to 1 second of acquisition. The time reference is defined such that t=0 marks the moment the gravity current enters the field of view (“RawPIVExperiment-c.zip” and “RawPIVExperiment-l.zip”). MATLAB code: Scripts to process PIV data and generate vorticity maps (“plot_vorticity_map.m”).
