Haplotype-resolved genome assembly of horse mint (Mentha longifolia)

Mints produce essential oils used in many commercial applications across the world. Here we present a haplotype-resolved chromosome scale assembly of a clone of diploid Mentha longifolia (horse mint), which is one of the parental species of both Mentha piperita (peppermint) and Mentha spicata (spearmint). Specifically, this genome assembly was developed from tissue from clone CMEN17 (PI 557755). This assembly, along with the previously assembled genome of Mentha suaveolens and a consensus assembly of Mentha longifolia will allow a wider toolset towards approaching mint cultivar development.
