Local benefits of training and employment with resource industries in Pond Inlet, Nunavut (NGMP ID 16SE17)

The overall purpose is to accurately monitor training and employment benefits identified in the Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreement (IIBA) that was negotiated and signed between Baffinland Mines and Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA). Specifically, this project investigates training and employment opportunities with the Baffinland Mary River Project for Nunavummiut in Pond Inlet. We plan to understand the degree to which IIBAs benefit local communities in terms of the provision for education, training, and employment. Stated benefits of the IIBA include priority hiring of Inuit in local communities, identification and reduction of employment barriers to Inuit advancement, as well as the provision of training programs, including trades apprenticeships with the mine.
