Escherichia coli O111 Genome sequencing and assembly

The study goals of this sequencing project are to compare the complete closed genomes from E. coli serotype O111 strains based on a previous evolutionary study and to compare those strains that are able to cause disease in humans with those that are not able. E. coli O111 strains that carry Shiga toxin genes are an important food borne pathogen in humans. Currently, there are studies that describe the evolution of strains from this serotype but only from contigs derived from short read sequencing. This study will improve our understanding of this important serotype by using complete closed genomes.
