We have developed a biotechnological method of producing trehalose from Levulinic acid, a building-block derived from cellulosic biomass. Burkholderia stabilis LA20W is thetrhalose producer with a productivity of 2 g L-1 in 40% (w/v) levulinic acid. The genome sequence of this strain will provide the molecular-level insight into the efficient production of trehalose.
