Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a heterogenous disease with different genetic and epigenetic backgrounds. The PI3KCA gene encodes for the catalytic subunit p110alpha of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K). Determining the frequency of PIK3CA mutations in CRC in different populations may provide an improved understanding of the pathogenicity and prognosis of CRC.
