Replica Antler Pressure Flaking Tool

Replica antler pressure flaking tool (no catalog #), a part of the Michigan State University Museum's Archaeology Teaching Collection. This tool, created by Toby Morrow, is made from white-tail deer antler that has been ground to a point on one end. Today and in the past, this tool played a critical role in stone tool production. Once a stone tool had been shaped by removing large flakes, this tool would be used to remove small flakes through pressure (pressure flaking) that create the tool's final form and sharpen its edges.
