Comparison of the microbiota of dental plaque between Iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) patients and healthy people

Iron is an essential trace element for the multiplication of virtually all microorganisms. In previous study, we found that a drastic community shift was observed in oral microflora under insufficient iron supply in vitro. Streptococcus spp., Gemella spp. and Granulicatella spp. would become dominant with insufficient iron supply. This cross-sectional study enrolled 24 primary iron-deficiency anemia (IDA) patients from 2015.6 to 2016.6 from the hematology department of West China Hospital, Sichuan University and 24 healthy controls. By high-throughput sequencing platform(Illumina Miseq),this study identified the distinction of the dental-plaque microbiota between IDA patients and healthy adult controls.
