Here we report a scaffold-level assembly and annotation of the genome of Xenopsylla cheopis, a rat flea widely present in warmer regions throughout the world which is of particular importance because it is the major vector of Yersinia pestis, the bacterial agent of bubonic plague to humans. It is also the principal vector of Rickettsia typhi, the cause of murine typhus in humans.
