Mycoplasma Genome sequencing and survey of intergenic spacer region sequences from canine clinical specimens

Mycoplasma cynos is recognized as an emerging causative pathogen of canine infectious respiratory disease (CIRD) world-wide. The goal of this work was to develop a new open-source real-time PCR diagnostic assay for M. cynos that performs well under standard real-time PCR conditions. To substantiate the high specificity of the M. cynos tuf gene assay, sequence confirmation was performed on intergenic spacer region PCR amplicons. Further, whole genome sequencing of Mycoplasma cynos and Mycoplasma mucosicanis type strains are reported here for the first time.
