Metagenomics of Cameroonian aquatic bugs, putative reservoirs of Mycobacterium ulcerans, reveals diverse Wolbachia infections. insect metagenome

Aquatic Hemiptera from the Southwest Region of Cameroon were collected during July 2017 following increasing reports of Buruli ulcer (caused by Mycobacterium ulcerans) in the area. Metagenomic sequencing of the Hemiptera revealed diverse infections with the alpha-proteobacterial symbiont, Wolbachia. Complete mitochondrial genomes were also obtained for several species of aquatic Hemiptera (Gerridae and Veliidae).
