Captivity effects on newt microbiomes

This study aims to characterize the microbiome and to identify differences in microbiome composition of wild and captive specimens of Calotriton arnoldi, one of Europe's most threatened amphibians. Our findings highlight the importance of maintaining a healthy and diverse microbiome when this species is kept outside its natural habitat.
