Comparative analysis of PCV-13 efficacy against controlled human infection with Streptococcus pneumoniae using pooled data from Malawi and UK.

This study integrates data from two distinct cohorts: the Experimental Human Pneumococcal Challenge (EHPC) studies in the United Kingdom and the MARVELS studies in Malawi, to investigate potential sex differences in pneumococcal carriage rates and vaccine response to PCV13 (Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine).Through a combined analysis, the study examines sex-specific immune responses, focusing on population-level immunoglobulin variations and their implications for vaccine efficacy. Although no significant sex differences were identified in the combined analysis, the findings are consistent with existing literature.This study demonstrates the feasibility of integrative data analysis (IDA) for Controlled Human Infection Model studies and contributes valuable insights into the relationship between sex, immune responses, and pneumococcal vaccine performance in diverse populations.
