We detected the new fungus due to its property to prevent the colonization of Ampicillin-treated C57BL/6 mice from Candida albicans colonization. We are currently defining the humoral and cellular immune responses of the colonized animals. Moreover, we are exploring the potential of competitive fungal commensalism for Candidiasis management. The new genome sequence matched Kazachstania heterogenica very closely in the available sequences, so we sequenced the Kazachstania heterogenica type strain Y27499 in addition, and reached the conclusion that our fungus is a new strain of K heterogenica
