Glacial Lake Inventory of the Parlung Zangbo Basin

Glacial lakes are sensitive indicators of cryospheric change and important potential sources of glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) hazards in high-mountain regions. The Parlung Zangbo Basin, located in the southeastern Tibetan Plateau, is characterized by extensive glacierization, complex terrain, and rapid cryospheric and hydrological changes. Based on high-resolution remote sensing imagery and automated glacial lake delineation using the ResAtt-VGGNet deep learning model, this dataset provides glacial lake inventory data for the Parlung Zangbo Basin in 2020 and 2025. The dataset contains vector-derived attribute tables for individual glacial lakes, including lake identification information, area, perimeter, geographic coordinates, centroid coordinates, elevation statistics, slope statistics, and lake volume estimates. The 2025 inventory further includes glacier-contact information, distance to the nearest glacier, glacial lake type, lake classification, major category, and subtype. This dataset can be used to investigate the spatial distribution, morphological characteristics, classification structure, and temporal changes of glacial lakes in the Parlung Zangbo Basin. It also provides a quantitative basis for assessing elevation-dependent glacial lake dynamics, glacier-lake interactions, and potential GLOF hazard patterns in data-scarce alpine environments. The dataset is expected to support studies of cryospheric change, remote sensing-based lake monitoring, and regional hazard assessment on the southeastern Tibetan Plateau.
