High contiguity genome sequence assembly of Trifoliate yam (Dioscorea dumetorum) generated by long read sequencing

The yam species Dioscorea dumetorum belongs to the genus Dioscorea comprising about 600 species described and widely distributed throughout the tropics. Yam is an important root crop and staple food, eight yam species are commonly consumed in west and central Africa, of which D. dumetorum has the highest nutrient value. The project aims at providing a complete and well-annotated reference genome sequence as an essential resource to support genomic approaches in agriculture like marker-assisted selection.
