Sea water samples were taken in the Southern Ocean and the South Atlantic Ocean during RV Polarstern cruises Ant28/4 and Ant28/5 in March and April 2012. DNA and RNA were extracted from environmental samples using acidic phenol and subjected to 16S rRNA sequencing as well WGS.
