Critical transcript and presentation of Regimento ao general da Armada

ABSTRACT The Regimento do general da Armada is a manuscript copy that belongs to the collection ofBiblioteca Nacional do Rio de Janeiro. The main topic discussed in the source was the effort to secure the defense of Bahia against the Dutch offensives. This source contains the instructions delivered to theGeneral da Armada de Mar Oceano, Antonio Teles de Menezes, sent to the State of Brazil in 1647 to lift the Dutch naval blockade of the city of Salvador. Besides the instructions relative to the procedures of commanding the Armada, theRegimentoalso presents several instructions that allow us to understand the strategies and intentions of the Portuguese Monarchy in that context, one which that deserves a highlight is the support to the Armada that leave Rio de Janeiro to regain the control of Angola in 1648.
