Clostridioides difficile Variation

Clostridium difficile infections (CDI) are a frequent and consequential hospital acquired condition. CDI severity ranges from asymptomatic carriage, to self-limited diarrhea, to life-threatening colitis. Our understanding of the pathogenesis of C. difficile is based on a large body of studies on outbreak strains. While the epidemiology of CDI is changing, the analysis of C. difficile in a non-outbreak setting will shed light on the mechanism of pathogenicity of sporadic C. difficile, and possibly produce more generalizable data. Here, we apply whole genomesequencing to 46 non-outbreak C. difficile from a general hospital.
