The records in this series consist of copies of the Minutes of the Port of Portland Advisory Committee forwarded to VA 4151 Central Planning Authority.The Port of Portland Advisory Committee, an example of local regional involvement in State development and planning, consisted of representatives of the Corangamite, Glenelg, Wimmera and Mallee Regional Committees and the Portland Harbour Trust. It was established to consider and make recommendations referred to it by the Regional Committees, by the Central Planning Authority or the Harbour Trust. It was to be concerned with:the development of the Port of Portland, railway and road facilities;the provision of adequate Water Supply schemes and power and fuel;the establishment of secondary industries essential to the carrying on of primary production as it affected the Port of Portland.Meetings were held at a variety of regional centres throughout Western Victoria. This Committee was disbanded in 1969 with the establishment of the Portland Development Committee.
