The project aims at characterization and whole genome sequencing of a novel bacteriophage PhCF1.2 which targets and lyses Photobacterium ganghwense strain CF1.2. The host bacterium and its lytic phage were both isolated from seawater samples collected at Cochin Fisheries Harbour in Kerala, South India. The phage exhibits specificity for Photobacterium ganghwense. Transmission electron microscopy analysis of the phage revealed an icosahedral capsid with a diameter of approximately 55 nm.
