PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite material having small variations in characteristics， and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: A composite material 1 contains an entangled lignocellulose fiber 2 having a size of mesh 21 of 45 nm or less， and a phenol resin 3. The composite material 1 can be produced by a method for producing a composite material including a mixing step of mixing a solvent， a lignocellulose fiber 2 and a phenol resin 3 to prepare a raw material solution， and a desolvation step of removing the solvent from the raw material solution 3.
