Soil and rice straw samples were collected from a paddy field at the Zhuanghang Comprehensive Experimental Station of the Shanghai Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The collected soil samples were promptly brought back to the laboratory and had their impurities such as plant and animal residues and gravel removed. After air-drying naturally, the samples were ground and passed through a 2 mm sieve for further use.
