Digital Archive from a Geophysical Survey at Thomas a Becket Church, Newton Tracey, North Devon, Devon, March 2018

This collection consists of images, geophysics and site record data from a geophysical survey by South West Archaeology Ltd. Work related to a residential development in a field adjacent to Thomas a Becket Church, Newton Tracey, North Devon, Devon in March 2018. The survey identified several geophysical anomalies of clear archaeological interest, principally the ditches of what is likely to be a Late Prehistoric multivallate enclosure rather than a Romano-British fortlet. The geophysical survey also identified relict field boundaries and a series of other undiagnostic anomalies. A majority of the significant features do not lie within the footprint of the proposed development. With this in mind, the overall impact of the proposed development can be assessed as negative/moderate. The impact of the proposed development on any buried archaeological resource would be permanent and irreversible.
