This bacterium was isolated from the Northeast Pacific Ocean at the deep chlorophyll maximum (40m). It is a member of the SAR11 clade of alphaproteobacterial and closely related to Candidatus Pelagibacter ubique, strain HTCC1062. SAR11 are the most abundant group of marine bacteria found ubiquitously in the world's ocean and have been implicated in playing an important role in global carbon and nutrient cycling. This new isolate will help to understand the metabolic diversity within the SAR11 clade.
