Metagenomic and amplicon-derived insights into the taxonomic and metabolic diversity of the Lake Karum microbiome

This project characterizes the taxonomic composition and functional potential of microbial communities within Lake Karum, a hypersaline lake located in the Danakil Depression, Ethiopia. The dataset comprises 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing (V4-V5 region) and whole-genome shotgun metagenomes derived from water and sediment (salt crust) samples collected during field campaigns in January 2018 and February 2020.
