Injuries in the Catchment Area of Odense Hospital 1983, II

The survey examines the risk of accident occurrence and which treatment is given for the injuries. The definition 'injury' is valid if the respon- dent meets at least 1 of the following 3 criteria: has given up activity; has been absent from work owing to the injury; or has undergone treatment after the injury. In addition to ob- taining a representative sample of injuries, the purpose of the survey is to examine possible differences in characteristics as regards the person, the circumstances or the injury in rela- tion to the chosen treatment facility. Furthermore, the survey has a methodological aim as an attempt is made at assessing how to formulate written reminders in order to obtain replies to questionnaires and also at examining to what an extent the Statistics Register of Acci- dents (Ulykkesstatistikregistret) in Odense, which contains data input from the hospitals, gives a representative picture of the injuries in the area. Additionally, it gives a picture of how reliable self-reported data on accident occurrence are. The area under investigation is the catchment area of Odense Hospital (i.e. the following munici- palities: Odense, Vissenbjerg, Tommerup, Årslev, Langeskov, Munke- bo, Otterup, Søndersø and Kerteminde). # The material was collected by means of postal questionnaires to a representative sample of the population aged 15-66 years in the catchment area of Odense Hospital. If the respondent (or the res- pondent's child aged 0-14 years) had been injured or had been in- volved in a traffic accident in the period 1 April to 30 Septem- ber, 1983 additional information was obtained by extracts from registers and telephone interviews. # The complete material with the respondent as the unit of ob- servation is filed under DDA-0814: 'Injuries in the Catchment Area of Odense Hospital 1983, I', whereas this material consists of an extract of the cases in which injuries or a traffic accident was registered.
