We often experience emotions such as happiness, anger, sadness, and others. As human beings, when encountering the utterance "Why didn't you text me!", we can interpret it as conveying sadness or anger even without contextual information; machines face the same ambiguity. The absence of facial expressions and vocal modulation renders emotion detection in text a challenging task. However, as we increasingly communicate via text messaging applications and digital agents, contextual emotion detection in text has become increasingly critical for generating emotion-aware responses for users. Our shared task aims to advance research on the problem of contextual emotion detection in text.
We also recognize that many participants may be first-time users of Codalab and/or not advanced machine learning experts. Our task is designed to help you get started in this field—simply follow our "How to Get Started?" section, and we will walk you through the entire process.
