Physical exercise and problematic smartphone use among Chinese adolescents

This dataset is sourced from a cross-sectional psychological survey conducted in Sichuan Province, China in May 2024. The data collection used a cluster random sampling method, covering enrolled students (aged 10-19) from 34 primary and secondary schools in Sichuan Province. The survey process was conducted by professionals in the field of mental health (psychiatrists, graduate students, and undergraduate students), and an anonymous questionnaire survey was conducted after signing an informed consent form. 10046 original questionnaires were collected. This dataset mainly contains two types of information: Demographic characteristic data: including labels such as gender (male/female), age, grade (elementary/junior high/high school), living environment (urban/rural), left behind status, family economic status (poor/non poor), and parents' marital status. Scale rating data: Physical exercise data: Based on the Physical Activity Rating Scale (PARS-3), it includes quantitative scores for exercise intensity, frequency, and time. Smartphone addiction data: based on the rating of the Smartphone Addiction Scale (SAS-SV). Self control data: based on the Simplified Self Control Scale (BSCS) score, including dimensions of autonomy and impulse control. Meaning of Life Data: Based on the rating of the Meaning of Life Scale (MLQ), it includes dimensions of having meaning and seeking purpose.
