资源简介:
Scientific rationale for study: Clinical investigations have extensively studied the impact of antibiotic prophylaxis for dental implant placement surgery on postoperative infections and implant failure. However, antibiotic prophylaxis effects on osteoimmune processes supporting dental implant placement surgery-induced alveolar bone wound healing and osseointegration are unclear.Principal findings: Administering a clinically-relevant course of prophylactic antibiotics to mice disrupted the oral microbiome, dysregulated dental implant placement surgery-induced helper T-cell oral immunity, reduced osteoclasts and osteoblasts lining peri-implant alveolar bone, and attenuated the alveolar bone-implant interface.Practical implications: Clinically administering prophylactic antibiotics for dental implant placement surgery may dysregulate implant osteoimmune wound healing.
