Total parenteral nutrition leads to altered gut microbial composition (dysbiosis). The goals of the study were twofold. First, to determine whether gut microbial profiles in mice given total parenteral nutrition compounded with different lipid emulsions would be different based on the supplied fatty acids. Second, to determine whether gut microbiota translocate to the blood during parenteral nutrition so that gut-associated signatures can be measured in blood samples.
