NRS-15481 | Burrinjuck Dam calculations

This volume is consists of the calculations, designs and plans for the construction of the Burrinjuck Dam. It includes a brief report setting out the estimates and data on which the design of the dam is based, describing the site, catchment area and the scheme for the dam, storage of water, discharge of flood rates, excavation, materials, design and estimates. Amongst the calculations are Burrinjuck Storage Reservoir - table of capacities; compressive tests of concrete and granite cubes carried out by the University of Sydney; and sundry quantities, costs, and diagrams of various construction details. A number of folded linen-backed plans and maps are attached to the volume showing the design, details and the locality. Some of the plans dating from 2 December 1908, appear to be original ones. These refer to the dam as the Barren Jack Dam. An Index to the contents of the volume appears in the front of the volume.Loose inside the back cover are an undated note to the Irrigation Commission, Victoria concerning calculations of discharge from the dam to which is attached a note regarding the height of the dam, the relative height of the 1925 floods and the effect of decreasing the height by 15 feet. Clipped to these papers are news clippings from August 1937 regarding the deterioration of the dam. The number 3F/173 appears on the front endpapers of this volume. Its significance is unknown. It was possibly a location symbol when the record was active or in storage. Custody HistoryThis record series was handed to the Archives Authority of NSW on 11 June 1968 by the Bradfield family. It was apparently an archival estray.
