The prevalence and diversity of archaea and bacteria in swab samples from the middle meatus of 60 individuals with and without chronic sinus disease were analysed. A nested amplicon approach targeting 344F/1041R first, then 519F/806R of the 16S rRNA gene was applied. Amplicons were sequenced on the Illumina MiSeq platform. This is the largest study of the sinus archaeome and the first to analyse the archaeome in chronic sinus disease.
