In this study, we studied the effects of the red yeast rice and monascus pigment fermented by Monascus strains SHM1105 on the changes of blood lipids, intestinal flora and liver transcriptome in hyperlipidemia model rats. The experiment result shows that red yeast rice and monascus pigment can reduce fat accumulation and reduce blood lipid in rats induced by high-fat diet and monascus pigment is more effective than red yeast rice in reducing body fat and cholesterol. Intestinal flora analysis showed that red yeast rice and monascus pigment improved the intestinal environment by changing the abundance and ratio of the intestinal flora of rats. Red yeast rice and monascus pigment affect the synthesis and secretion of cholesterol through different lipid metabolism regulation pathways. The results of this study prove that red yeast rice and monascus pigment have the effects of preventing obesity, assisting in lowering blood lipids, and have potential application value.
